What Is Emotional Intelligence
What Is Emotional Intelligence A Guide to Emotional Intelligence ChaptersCan You Be Emotionally Intelligent?Developing Social IntelligenceIs Self-Control and Awareness Important? How to Develop Your Emotional QuotientSuccess in life is often the hardest aspect of our lives to quantify - and thatâs not necessarily our fault. Society has developed a narrative that great leaders are those that possess a significant degree of general intelligence in fields such as law, politics, mathematics, psychology and more. While authentic leadership benefits from mastery in particular fields, what is often left out of this definition of success is the importance of high emotional intelligence. While feelings and emotions are often uncomfortable to deal with, emotional intelligence skills are consistently ranked as some of the most important abilities worth cultivating. There are many reasons why you may be seeking to improve your emotional intelligence, whether that be because you want to implement these skills from a leadership standpoint in a business or simp ly because you want to learn how to process negative emotions more efficiently. While social emotional learning is a broad category, practiced by everyone from Bill George to the Dalai Lama, there are certain aspects of emotional literacy and skills that can be defined and explored - which is exactly what this guide will do. Starting with the origins of emotional intelligence to the best resources to practice your newfound skills, here is everything you need to get started on developing your leadership and interpersonal skills! Learning more about EQ from professionals in the area can help you grow! However, there has been increasing amounts of research into a new science called emotional intelligence th at is belying traditional wisdom for how to be an effective leader and developing leadership skills and knowledge. The theory of multiple intelligences deals with this new emotional and social skill, which deals with how well you can perceive your own emotional state and those of others. If you're interested in learning about leadership styles and personal achievement past indicators like IQ tests, emotional intelligence is the way to go. Kick-started by the bestselling novel Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, emotional intelligence deals with the ability in perceiving emotions through facial expressions, body language and intuition. Here's a guide on EQ basics!Developing Social IntelligenceIf you want to develop your emotional and social intelligence, start by taking an intelligence test for emotional ability. While the most popular emotional intelligence test, the MSCEIT, is typically paid for, there are plenty of free tests online you can take advantage of. While not encomp assing all the steps required for developing emotional intelligence, this is a great first step. These tests will ability to empathize with people, the degree you are self-aware of your empathetic and emotive abilities and more!Is Self-Control and Awareness Important? While no one needs to convince you about the importance of measuring a quotient in intelligence, quantifying your emotional abilities can seem non-essential. If you're interested in learning all about how self-management and social awareness can have a positive impact on your job performance, there are countless articles have been written by organizations such as the Harvard Business Review. If you want to understand more about the degree to which emotions can be a great predictor for personal and professional success, check out some of the works written by psychologists John Mayer, Peter Salovey and David Caruso. How to Develop Your Emotional QuotientNow that you understand a bit about the theory behind multiple intellige nces and why it can be equally as important to supplement a good intelligence quotient with emotional awareness, where do you go from here? While you might prefer to dig into Daniel Golemanâs bestseller to get even more familiar with the literature behind the emotional quotient, putting the concepts you learn about into practice should be on the top of your priority list alongside with learning more about the subject. While reading about intelligence tests from Goleman, Salovey and other journalists and academics can give you a better grasp on the scientific definitions surrounding intelligence and emotions, starting to practice social and emotional learning can be difficult. From a young age, weâre constantly taught the habits and mental tools that are necessary to develop things like a high IQ and pass general intelligence tests.Everyone has had to live through the horror of passing timed, standardized tests to get passing grades, get into schools, into job positions and even t o simply pass those captcha tests to prove youâre a human. It doesnât help much that the superiority of being intelligent is constantly being reinforced, where society tends to prize hard skills like programming over soft skills like relationship management. Of course, these are broad generalizations - but it does serve to underscore the fact that people arenât generally taught the important skills of self-regulation, empathy and managing emotions and moods. Here are some of the ways you can start to develop emotional awareness. Developing your critical thinking skills can be a great benefit!1. Listening to More Music or Watching More MoviesIf you want to become intelligent with respect to your emotional rapport with others and yourself, try watching more movies and listening to more music. There are a countless number of studies that have measured the effects of watching films on our emotions. If you really want to experience the full effects of this, you can also try your hand at scriptwriting or filming your own short film. This can help you develop some of the beneficial tools people involved in filmmaking possess, like understanding the body language that emotions convey. In terms of listening to music, you have probably already felt the powerful effect of music over your emotions. However, if you want to take these benefits to the next level, you should try participating in a music program. Some studies have shown that children who participated in a yearlong music class demonstrated an increased level o f empathy.2. Reading Books or WritingIf youâve ever been moved by a novel, short story or poetry, youâve already experienced the benefits of reading. Studies have suggested that reading books that we enjoy have a powerful ability to increase our emotional intelligence. Even for those who donât consider themselves as big readers can set the goal for themselves of completing one book for the year.Along the same lines, writing can also help you improve your mental capacity for emotions. Even people who consider themselves as having experienced traditional and non-traumatic life events can benefit from the catharsis involved in writing. Try writing daily at the start or end of your day about the details of your day, no matter how mundane they feel. Youâre bound to realize some patterns or specifics about how you process the instances of your days that you hadnât before. Here are some more tips on how to improve your EQ!3. Joining a Sports Team or ExerciseIf you think youâd pr efer a more active practice in emotional intelligence, try joining a gym class or a local sports team. The scientific literature documenting the benefits of exercise and sports on mental capacities can be conflicting. However, consistent exercise is great at reducing stress and increasing positive attitudes towards life for many people.4. Practicing MindfulnessMindfulness can take on many meanings, but in general, it is the process of taking stock of your physical and mental processes and attempting to improve them when necessary. For example, if you often find yourself unable to sleep at night because your brain simply wonât shut off, it might be because you have some underlying anxiety regarding some aspects of your life. Some things that can help you pinpoint what these stress-inducing aspects are can be the breathing exercises involved in mindfulness meditation. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to help you start to understand your emotions a bit better.Do your exper iences affect your emotions drastically, fluctuating drastically as a reaction from moment to moment or not really? Are your emotions tied to sensations in your body? If so, can you locate them? Some examples can be tightness, dryness or clenching of the throat, stomach, chest, etc.Are people normally confused by how youâre feeling because you tend not to have such strong emotional responses? Or maybe because you have very intense emotional responses?Do your emotions play a major role in your decision making or do you actively work against them when making decisions?Answering questions like these can help you start to understand your perception and processing of your emotions. Enhance your skills by practicing mindfulnessBest Online Help for Improving Your Social SkillsIf you want to learn more about how you can improve your social competences and emotional learning, online websites can be your best tool. While not an exhaustive guide on how to improve your emotional intelligence, here are some of the best guides that can help you learn to understand and self-report your emotions.Being Well podcast: learn from Dr. Rick Hanson's interviews with professionals on some of the ways you can develop mental skills for a happier, healthier lifeTaking emotional intelligence tests online

Math homework help algebra is easily taught with TutorPace
Math homework help algebra is easily taught with TutorPace Education is one of the biggest parts of our lives. In the present era we are unable to view anything beyond education. With passage of time the importance of education has increased largely. Parents spend a whole good amount on giving their child proper education for their better tomorrow. Today the cost of education has also increased and this has forced people to search for various other alternatives. School charges high fees, private tuition charges heftily and thus it becomes a serious cause of worry for most of the parents in todayâs time. Mathematics is one of the tough subjects according to me. When I was a kid I used to fear mathematics very much and thus my parents had to find options so that I can learn the subject better. But the availability of good teachers was a great cause of worry. The private tutors were at that time available less but were very dedicated towards a student and thus used to find out proper time and concentration for the subject as well for the student. Today good private tutors can be found but they charge high and also devote less time in teaching. Professionalism has hit them as well. So, for those weak students like me who are unable to find how to track mathematics and its problems, there is an option and that is the online teaching facility. Very few of us may have heard about it and thus itâs not that much popular. But with time it is slowly and steadily gaining much recognition. Detailed study about online teaching With the advent of new technologies, things have become very much easy and also accessible. You may have heard about internet and its various utilities that it faces. Internet has been helping people in various ways possible. With the help of internet only things are coming into oneâs grip. The entire process of online teaching is also held through internet. You do not have to get in direct contact with the teacher and still you can learn better than any other teacher would even have taught you. The teaching process is conducted through the help of internet where teachers and students come in contact with each other virtually and materials for learning are also provided to them by emails. Now you may have got an idea about what the whole thing is about and how does it work. Which institute to choose? Today this has become one of the best professions for many qualified students who do not have anything else to do. They invest themselves in being a good teacher and earning respect as well as good bucks. Online teaching is a new way and students and their parents are taking this seriously and are enrolling themselves in any of the good institute. But how will you know which one is effective and which one is not. For that you have to go for a detailed study and know about the process and various facilities that a reputed and well known company will provide you. There are various fake institutes as well who cannot make it happen what they claim to say. Thus, before investing your amount, its better that you even know the benefits so that things may turn out to be easy for you even more. Advantages of online teaching Let us now view some of the teaching fundamentals and some of the basics through which learning and teaching both seems to be fun and easier. The teachers who are involved in such institutes are very much efficient and know the subject very well. A good teacher always helps in making a student also to learn the subject better and on a much easier way. The qualified teachers are only taken care of in the interview process. The interview process is tough enough and thus those candidates who have a good grip over the subject can only clear the interview and get a chance to be a part of any reputed institute. Each reputed institute provides you with the facility of having an all round the clock classes. Yes, it is true that you can get the classes anytime you want. The classes can be attended by the students as they want as they wish to attend. The teachers are present all round the clock and it helps the students in many ways possible. When you know that you have teachers present for you, you can easily clear your doubts and this brings in a sense of self confidence in you too. The third important benefit is that the rates or the fees are too less and this helps the parents of the child also to be tension free. When you will have a high fees value then it becomes very tough for parents of middle class family to afford such a lump sum amount for them to invest in such classes. There good institutes make a difference unlike other institutes. Good institutes have one teacher for every individual student who looks after the student dedicatedly. For a weak student this is one of the best benefits that are unavailable anywhere else. Here you can solve your doubts without feeling shy and awkward with the presence of other students. These teachers also help in completing your various assignments, homework and projects assigned by the school to each particular student. Tutor Pace can be considered as a good institute While surfing online you may come across various institutes that are good with various benefits of it. But TutorPace is one of such institute who come with total package within it. All the stated above facilities are found under the roof of this institute and it helps a student to be better and also increase its grades with ease. Math homework help algebra is also a part of the services that Tutor Pace provides you. Here you can get help with the completion of your homework.
How to Boost Your Reading Comprehension
How to Boost Your Reading Comprehension Improving Academic Performance Reading comprehension is one of those critical skills that you use on a daily basis. Many may think that simply reading will help strengthen their reading comprehension skills, but that isnât necessarily true. Reading comprehension goes beyond reading and understanding the words that make up a sentence. Reading comprehension involves deciphering the topic and purpose of the sentence, paragraph, or article at hand. Without reading actively -- that is reading, remembering, and analyzing what youâve read -- your reading comprehension skills wonât improve very much. So, how can you learn to read actively? Take a look at the tips and strategies listed below to learn how to read actively. Preview Your Text Do you habitually skip the summaries and focus questions at the beginning of your textbook chapter? Donât! These summaries and guided questions are there to help you read smarter! Before diving in and reading an article or text in its entirety, take time to briefly preview the chapter summaries and guided questions. If you are reading an article or a book, preview the text by reading the title and the paragraph titles. Previewing the text prior to reading it in length will give you a basic understanding of the main topic and/or purpose of the text. Educators at Education Corner write that reading the introduction, table of contents, chapter headings, and bold print can be strong indicators of what the main topics of a text will be. Knowing what the main topics and main purposes are ahead of time will help you to determine what information to pay close attention to and how the text will develop. Jot Down Questions Now that you have a general idea of what the main topics of the text are, rewrite the chapter titles, chapter subtitles, and paragraph headings into questions. For example, a chapter title that reads âPrinciples of Macroeconomicsâ can be easily rephrased into a question: âWhat are the principles of macroeconomics?â. Jotting down questions prior to reading a text in full will help you navigate what the main points are, and what information you should take away once youâve completed reading the text. Read! Previewing and jotting down questions will help prime you on what to expect in the text. Youâre all set to beginning reading. When reading, pay close attention to the first and last sentence of every paragraph. The first sentence often introduces what the main topic of the paragraph is, and the last sentence typically summarizes the main point and indicates the direction the next paragraph is going to take. The McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning at Princeton University recommends bracketing the main idea of the reading, writing notes in the margins, and creating an outline of the reading to aid in conceptually understanding the reading. The key to active reading is making sure that you understand the main idea of the text, the function it serves, and how the main idea or main argument develops over the course of the reading. To track how the main idea develops, keep note of pivotal words such as additive words (and, also, furthermore), compare/contrast words (conversely, despite, however), and cause-and-effect words (accordingly, because, hence). When you see these words, pay attention! These words are important because they indicate the direction of the main idea. To review more pivotal words, check out the pivotal words guide published by Dartmouth College. Recall What Youâve Read After you have finished reading your text, take some time to write a brief summary. Your summary shouldnât exceed one page. In your summary, recall the main idea of the text, the main purpose of the text, the points that the text brought up, and important details. Writing a summary of the text does two things: 1) it gives you an opportunity to check whether or not you fully understand the text and the argument. 2) you have a summary that you can quickly review when preparing for exams. If you're summary indicates that you didn't fully understand the text, go back and re-read it. It may take two or three times reading an article before you can clearly identify the main idea. If this occurs, try breaking up the reading in chunks and deciphering the main idea of each paragraph. Once you've identified the main idea of each paragraph, string the ideas together to help you understand the text as a whole. Review The most effective way to retain the text that youâve read is to review the text or your summary. Revisit your summary and quiz yourself on how much you remember about the text and the main points that the text addresses. If there are some points or concepts that you donât fully understand, review the text. Take the review process a step further by spending time posing questions about the main idea, teasing out the assumptions that the author makes in her text, and real-world applications of the concepts presented in the text. This extra step will help you to have a stronger understanding of text, and will help you retain the main ideas of the text. Reading actively takes practice and time. Practice utilizing these tips and strategies and youâll start to see your reading comprehension strengthen! 11 Job Application Mistakes And How To Fix Them
11 Job Application Mistakes And How To Fix Them Image: Glenn Carstens-Peters via https://unsplash.com/photos/npxXWgQ33ZQ Objective statements: too long, to use? If you opt to include an objective statement on your resume, make sure you keep it short and concise. These statements let hiring managers know what you are looking for in a specific position. However, it is crucial that you keep it short since it is supposed to be an overview. There are debates as to whether or not you should even use an objective statement. Choosing not to use one can free up some space for you to add more to your resume without going over the one-page limit. How to fix this mistake: If you choose to use an objective statement, make sure it is short, sweet, and to the point. If you are having doubts as to whether or not you should use one, it may be better to skip it altogether. Listing responsibilities of a job When you are applying for a job, you should be showing how previous job experiences have helped make you qualified for the job you are applying for. Simply listing a previous job or experience without explaining what you did on a daily basis does not show hiring managers how the experience or position will help you be successful in the position you are applying for. When listing responsibilities, make sure you use specific achievements and quantifications of your duties. Using numbers to showcase your duties and experience can help prove that you have been successful. How to fix this mistake: Make sure you list your daily responsibilities as well as any accomplishments that you had at a previous experience or position. Using high school experience in an entry-level position application When applying for college, you likely used the experiences you had in high school to help bolster your application. However, when applying for a professional job, it is important that you focus on what you accomplished during college, including student organizations and internships. Even if you were involved with relevant organizations in high school, hiring managers expect applicants to have experience from their college years that can translate into the job they are applying for. How to fix this mistake: Go through your resume and remove anything that you did in high school. Think of experiences that you had while in college and beyond to help bolster your resume with these things. Going on a tangent in your cover letter Like your resume, it is important to keep your cover letter short and sweet, ideally to one page since hiring managers have a ton of applications to sort through. While you should give specific examples of how you would be great for the job, it is important to keep your letter concise and to the point of what is in the job posting. You should also have a good opener and conclusion, but, again, keep these as short and clear as possible. How to fix this mistake: After writing your cover letter, go through and make sure it is one page or less. If it is longer, see what details you may have included that are not directly related to the job posting. Also, if you have gone on a tangent, even if it is related to a job posting, cut it down a bit. Image: Lee Campbell via https://unsplash.com/photos/6njoEbtarec Rushing through your application As a college student, you are busy with classes, organizations, and possibly part-time jobs. However, it is important that you take your time when you are writing your application. Hiring managers can tell if something was rushed through, and this sends the message that you do not want the job. Also, rushing through your application gives you a higher chance of grammatical errors. How to fix this mistake: Set aside time each week to apply for jobs. That way, you have a designated time to work on applications and you can avoid rushing through. This also gives you a chance to proofread your application and have someone else look over it once you edit it. Simply repeating information from your resume in your cover letter While your resume and cover letter should be consistent with much of the same information, avoid stating information from your resume in your cover letter word for word. Your cover letter the place for you to give examples of how your experiences and positions will help you in the position you are applying for. How to fix this mistake: Look at your resume and cover letter simultaneously. If you just rehashed the bullet points from your resume in your cover letter, shift your focus to how your previous experiences and positions will help you in the role you are applying for. Give specific examples of projects you worked on that relate to the job posting. Making formatting errors in your resume and cover letter When you are writing your cover letter, it is easy to be confused about how to write a professional cover letter, especially if it is your first time. Luckily, there are online resources that can help you out. Also, going to your schoolâs career center to get advice can be useful. Likewise, making your first resume can seem daunting, especially since there are so many examples online for a variety of careers. How to fix this mistake: Write your cover letter in the standard business letter format. If you look online, you can find examples of how to write in this way. For resumes, many word processing programs have templates that include resume formats. You may also be able to find an online template to download and use. Saving the template allows you to use it for future applications as well. Lying, intentionally or unintentionally Even if you make it through the application and interview process and end up with a job offer, lying on your resume will eventually bite you in the butt. When you are actually unable to do something you said or could or worked at a place you never have, the company you are applying with will find out and if you were offered the position, you will likely be fired. If the lie is unintentional and you catch it before the interview, be honest in the interview and tell the interviewer that you are sorry for making the mistake. How to fix the mistake: Be honest about your abilities upfront. It will be much more gratifying to get a job for what you can actually do than for what you lied about. If you make an unintentional mistake about a date or other detail, be honest upfront. The hiring managers will be grateful for your honesty and if not, it is not worth working there. To avoid unintentional mistakes altogether, give yourself plenty of time to apply. Proofread before submitting, and have someone you know and trust look over it as well. Other general fixes for your job application errors Most colleges and universities have career centers that help students with their resumes and cover letters for their applications. Individual majors or sections of your university might have career counselors for your specific major or career type, which will give you advice specific to your field. Make an appointment to have your documents checked out. Bring drafts of your document as well as the specific job posting so that the career counselor can look to make sure your application fits in with what the job posting is looking for. Job applications can be intimidating, especially when you are applying for your first major job. Knowing how to avoid common mistakes can help you stand out and boost your confidence in yourself and your application.
8 Trendy Foods to Try This Summer
8 Trendy Foods to Try This Summer Image via Isorepublic.com Avocado Toast Of course, the first thing many people think of when they hear âtrendy foodâ is avocado toast. This superfood is cheap and very easy to make it at home. Plus, you can add whatever you want to it. All you need to do it toast some bread, mash up a mini avocado, spread the avocado on the bread, and add anything else youâd like to it! For example, you can add salt, pepper, diced tomato, cheese, and other things like that. You can make it however you like it! You can find avocado toast at some restaurants, but it is often overpriced; itâs easy enough to make that I recommend you make your own, rather than going to a restaurant to buy it. Apple Cider Vinegar Apple cider vinegar has become a trendy food lately because there are so many benefits to it. For example, it can reduce cholesterol, improve heart health, burn fat, and lower blood sugar. Itâs also very useful. It is an antibiotic, useful for cleaning everything from wounds to kitchen surfaces. Beware that it has a very strong, concentrated, sour taste. Too much of it can harm you. If you plan to drink apple cider vinegar or use it in any way, itâs a good idea to dilute it. Start with 1-2 teaspoons (5-10mL) for each large glass of water. If you are like me and are particularly sensitive to sour tastes, you would only need to add a few drops for every cup of water. You can also drink it in a tea or use it as a salad dressing (diluted, of course). Coconut Oil We all love fried and oily foods, but some oils are healthier than others. Coconut oil is not only healthy, but it is so versatile, just like apple cider vinegar. It is a natural anti-fungal and an antibacterial substance, so it can be used for many things! For example, you can cook with it, but you can also use it as a mouthwash, exfoliator, makeup remover, or a lip balm. Of course, the purer or the more organic, the better. Plantain Pasta We all love pasta, but sadly, it is not the healthiest food out there. Thankfully, there are alternatives that taste almost just like the pasta we know and love. These pasta alternatives are made with other ingredients, like fruits and vegetables, so they are healthier. For example, you can try spaghetti squash, lentil pasta, or plantain pasta. These are veggie based rather than carb based, so they will be much healthier for you, but they taste really good! The next time you are craving pasta, try one of these pasta varieties. Pizza with Cauliflower Crust Similarly, everyone loves pizza, but itâs not the healthiest option. You can make it slightly healthier by making your pizza with a cauliflower crust rather than a dough crust. When your pizza is vegetable based rather than dough based, it will be healthier, but it will still taste good. Cauliflower crust pizzas are becoming much more popular; you can easily find them in the frozen pizza section at your local grocery store. Kombucha You might have heard of kombucha, which is a fizzy probiotic drink. Probiotics are commonly known as âgood bacteriaâ that your gut needs to help it digest food. Personally, the fizziness is a little too much for me, so I like to dilute my kombucha. There are different flavors of kombucha, too. If you donât like one, you can try another! Non-dairy Milk Non-dairy milks are becoming more popular because many people cannot eat dairy. Milks made with dairy substitutes can be just as delicious and nutritious. There are also many different types of non-dairy milks, so if you donât like one, you can pick another one. For example, there are almond, soy, coconut, rice, an oat milk. Try them with cereal, coffee, or with other foods to see which one you like the most. Kale Salad Another newly popular superfood is kale. It is not only delicious, but full of nutritious vitamins and minerals. It is especially good in a salad, where you can add whatever other fruits and vegetables you would like. Itâs also easy to find when you go out to eat or when ordering delivery, as many restaurants serve kale salad. Summer is a great time to try new foods, so if there are some foods you want to try, try the ones I mentioned! You never know, you might find your new favorite food this summer!
